Bad Habits

I don't have many household rules for Maisie and the ones I do have are pretty basic, such as no peeing on rugs, no begging for food, no chewing on furniture and no sleeping directly on the sheets of my bed. However, more often than not, after making the bed I return to a scene like this...
Or this.

No matter how many times I correct her, nearly every day I find Maisie either mid- or post-comforter bunching. I understand that it's doggie instinct to make a little nest, but it drives me nuts!  You're probably thinking "well, why allow her on the bed at all then?"  That's a valid question.  The answer is 'cause I'm a sucker.  A sucker who enjoys her Maisie bedtime snuggles.

I have also noticed that Maisie seems extra itchy lately.  She's always had a bit of a licking habit, but recently she's been really gnawing at her paws...
And nibbling at her flank.

I'm assuming it's a seasonal thing, especially since my allergies have been acting up as well.  Has anyone else noticed their dog displaying increased allergy-type symptoms over the last few weeks?

Oh Maisie, always the comedian! I allow Skye to "fluff" the bed when she wants to, but usually she fluffs her dog bed, then sleeps with me anyway. As far as itching, Skye gets worse this time of year from the grass. I just wipe her down with a no fragrance baby wipe (cheaper than dog wipes) whenever she comes in from a walk or romp outside. It seems to help the itching go down. Good luck!

If I could figure out a way to allow Blackie on the bed but not the sheets it would be a miracle! I have all white sheets and his black hair all over them is not really the look I'm going for but he does the exact same thing. He burrows. It's too cute though and I'm too much of a sucker to make it stop.

Those 2 photos look exactly what our pooches have been doing. Chicago has lost its spring, but kept our allergies.

we get the doggie allergies too -- we had been giving Gonzo benadryl pills (the little pink ones), and it worked -- you can find recommended dosing online.
as for the sheets -- well, we gave up on that years ago. our dogs now boldly burrow all the way under the covers or curl up with their stinky butts right at the center of our pillows, whenever they feel like it.
such is the life of a dog loving family!

My Maize does the same thing! I let both of the dogs sleep in the bed and my one rule is no one but me is allowed to use the pillows. I often come in the bedroom to find her nest made and on the pillows. Arg! Pug's allergies have been pretty bad this season as have mine and I've never really had issues in the past. He gets 1/2 a benedryl at each meal.

We decided to stick with the no-bed rules given that Toni's brindle hairs are downright weapon-like. I literally had a Toni hair stuck in my foot for three days before I could get it out!

For allergies, loveandaleash gave good advice - Téa gets a generic brand of Benadryl in the AM and PM during allergy season.
