Wistful Window Watching Wednesday

Maisie jumped up on a guest chair in my office the other day to better absorb the sunshine and breezes coming in from an open window.  We will miss this office space...

I have loved being able to bring Maisie to work with me.  Unfortunately, my boss has decided not to renew the lease since there are now only two employees here (not including Maisie, that is).  So starting mid-July, I will be working from home...meaning more, but different, Maisie time.  I will still take her to daycare once a week, but I'm worried that having less independence from me might exacerbate her separation anxiety when I do leave her home alone.  Frankly, neither of us take to change very well and this is a change that's definitely gonna take some getting used to.  For starters, I'll need to convince myself not to wear pajamas all day, every day.

I'm really hoping this job doesn't go away altogether.  But maybe when one door closes, a window opens...

p.s. Don't forget this is Reader Appreciation week and you can win your pup a deer antler of his/her own!
Read Saturday's post for details (if you haven't already)...

Oh dear, I'm not very good with change either so I know how you feel! Hopefully you'll enjoy your pup time anyway. Part of me would love to take Bilbo to work (not that it's allowed in my office), but I know that he would probably stop me from getting anything done.

Perhaps you'll have to institute work from the coffee shop once a week day to help her retain some of her stay alone independence? But won't that be great to have the option of being with your cutie all the time!!! Or as I think about that perhaps we all need an occasional break from one another.........lol

i used to love working from home, but found myself to be more productive if i got out of the house most days-- i would go to the library or a coffee shop for a few hours to work. it helped a lot.
fingers crossed for your new adventure

my current co-worker and I have decided to work at each other's place once a week so we're only working alone 3 days a week. whatever day I am at her apartment, Maisie will go to daycare. I will probably also crate her for short periods mid-day a couple times a week to take a yoga class, run an errand or meet a friend for lunch. but no more dog walker at that point. the whole situation will feel weird at first.

Sounds like it will be a bit of an adjustment for both of you, but I'm sure you'll figure out away to make it work the best for both of you.

Working from home definitely has its pro's and con's. I'd suggest scheduling in "alone time" each day that Maisie is there. Choose a room or her crate, give her something to do, and take the opportunity to do laundry, yoga, or... you know... work. Making daily alone time a routine for Maisie will be tough at first, but it really pays off in the long run!

Good luck!

We think it will be great for you and Masie but will definitely take some getting used to.

I work from home as well and find that a few intentional daytime errands come in handy. It helps me stay sane (and dressed and showered) and it helps the dogs remember that they can survive without me. I tend to grocery shop at lunchtime or run to Target - some simple errand that is much more pleasant without the rest of Chicago trying to do it at exactly the same time. A couple of hours at a coffee shop would accomplish the same without having to leave your computer for very long.

That certainly does seem like a nice work space - there's something about brick that really makes me feel cozy...
So what's wrong with wearing pj's all day?! While change can be scary and I understand your concerns about the separation anxiety issue, you can still have closeness without codependence. I think I'd give my right foot to work from home ;)
I hope it works out well, though and just think of all the commuting expenses you'll save!
