News and Nerves

As some of you had guessed, I got a job!!!  It's a great opportunity with a growing company and even came with a 10% raise from my previous position.  I start on Monday.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that it's in the far suburbs (in Schaumburg for you Chicagoans) and will be over an hour commute each way.  And of course, it means I'll no longer just head downstairs to chill on the couch with my best girl.

No more afternoon scritchin' sessions in my pajamas.

Or having Maisie rest peacefully nearby while I eat lunch (still working security with one eye though).

Because of her separation anxiety, I never leave Maisie home alone in the crate for an entire workday.  I found a dog daycare about ten minutes away from the new office and assuming all goes well on Monday, I am planning to take her along with me on the drive Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and drop her off at daycare on my way.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I will bring Maisie to my dog walker Paul's house (about 20 minutes in the opposite direction) early in the morning then pick her up after work, so she'll spend those days hanging out and playing with his three dogs.  I'm definitely gonna be putting a lot more miles on my car!

I know Maisie is going to freak out about the new daycare, especially since we've both become so used to being together nearly all the time.  And I feel super guilty because I don't have time to actually check out the facility in person before bringing her there for the first time (although I have had two lengthy phone calls with the manager, during which we discussed Maisie's issues and how they will address them).  I'm sure she will be fine, but I can't help but worry.  I will already be nervous about my first day of work on Monday, and Maisie will surely pick up on those nerves and be even more scared about being left at a strange place.

But ultimately, I need to do what I have to do and getting this job is a HUGE relief...I am so happy to have it and I'm really excited to get started.  Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement!  :)

p.s. L'shanah tovah to my fellow Jewish peeps...I wish everyone a fantastic 5772!

Congrats on the new job! Hopefully Maisie adjusts okay. It sounds like you have a good plan in place to keep her nice and busy, so maybe it won't be too hard on her. Though, sounds like its going to be hard on your poor car...

I took the car in last week for a check-up and routine maintenance, so hopefully it'll make it through with me!

Yay for new jobs! Sounds like you already have a plan in place for Maisie and you will know if something isn't right about the doggy daycare. Did you look up reviews of it online? You know how doggy moms and dads can be opinionated - if it's a bad place - they've probably gotten reviews to reflect that! Congrats on the job - that is super awesome!

Congratulations! Like anything new, it'll take some time for Maisie to adjust. However, her separation anxiety may actually improve if she is spending the majority of her time away from you having fun. Does the day care have webcams? At least then you can check in on her during the day (assuming that would be allowed at work- no rule breaking in the first week!)

Congrats on the new job!

That was the hardest part about going back to school - being away from my puppies. Before then, I'd spent all day/every day with them.

I hope all goes well for both of you and that Maisie adjusts well. The fact that you did all that for her shows just how much you love her.

unfortunately, the daycare doesn't have a webcam. and strangely, I found no reviews online - positive or negative. maybe suburbanites don't post stuff like we city dwellers do? I don't know, it's odd!

Oh gosh, good luck to both of you! I work from home so the day that I have to start working out of an office will be a tough day for everyone, I think. It will make fostering that much more difficult.

Congrats!!! Good news on the job and think of all the new buddies Maisie will make! It's not a bad or scary thing at all, really! Try to think about all the good things - new work peeps, new doors opening, new doggie buddies, how special home time will be...rather than what is scary and unknown. Remember that your 1st day at work is always filled with meeting and greeting, and tours, tax paperwork and such. You'll both do great!!!!

Congratulations! I've always wondered what I would do if I ended up in a regular office job again. Kudos to you for finding a way to make it all happen!
